What you are about to read is a collection of short stories and information I’ve put together with the help of other taxi drivers/dispatchers/passengers in St John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. These stories date from the early 1980s to present dayand they range from funny to sad to thought-provoking, and perhaps even disturbing. I hope you enjoy reading these stories as much as I enjoyed writing them. –Joe White
Joe’s stories include how a spur of the minute cab ride to Trepassey resulted in a happy but unexpected family reunion. He tells too about the time a mysterious woman in a lemon coloured dress hailed his taxi one morning at 3 a.m. He’s had lonely seniors and troubled teens in his taxi. Passengers over the years have run the gamut from polite and chatty to rude and crude and those who can only be described as downright characters. You’re invited to jump aboard and meet a bunch of different people as well as explore a side of St. John’s you may never have encountered.
